File Transfer Protocol or FTP is a great way to move files from one place to another, and often times the only way to publish a home page to the internet.

Door Peninsula Internet customers with standard Dial-up or High Speed Dish.DoorPI.net service get 20 megabytes of personal webspace that can be used for a Personal Home Page, E-mail storage, or FTP storage.

Web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Mozilla can handle FTP but they are slow and awkward.  LeechFTP is a lot more efficient.  You can also use the command prompt "ftp" command if so inclined, but your on your own with that one.

To access your FTP storage just point your FTP Client to ftp.doorpi.net and log in with the same username and password you use to connect to the internet.  Use port 21, though most FTP clients don't even ask for a port number, 21 is assumed.

When you log in to ftp.doorpi.net you'll start in your own private directory, files in this directory are only accessibly via FTP with your username and password.  It can often be more convenient upload and download files to and from this directory as an alternative to carrying a floppy disk wherever you go.  If you want your files to be public upload them to the "public_html" directory and anyone with an internet connection can download them from http://www.doorpi.net/~username where username is your username.  You can also upload a file named "index.html" to make that your personal home page, but you'll probably want to learn how to write HTML code or at least us an HTML editor before attempting that.
