How to setup FTP

to use your personal web space from Door Peninsula Internet.

Download an FTP program compatible with your computer.  The example here is CoffeeCup Free FTP.  You may download it by clicking here (download Free FTP).  If you don't already have a program installed to "un-zip" this file you will need to get one and install it.  One such program can be downloaded here (download WinZip).  If you are using an Apple Mac or iMac you will need to find a similar ftp program such as fetch.

Bring up the FTP program and click on the big "+" sign to add a server.

Fill in the fields as shown, replacing username with your account name and the password with your password. The local directory would be the directory on your computer where the files are that you want to upload. The remote directory on our server is "www". Click on Cool to close.

Start a connection by clicking on the first icon with the lightning bolt and selecting the connection you just created. In a few seconds will will be connected and will see the server directory.

Copy your files to our server by dragging them from the left column (your computer) to the right column (our server). The first file should normally be named "index.html". Index.html is the first file loaded by visiting browsers. If you don't have an index.html file, then visitors will just get a directory listing the files you have uploaded.

Click on the "-" button to close the session. Then go visit your new website at www.doorpi.net/~yourname.
